Charitable Outreach
Autumn Term 2024
During the Autumn Term we have been very busy supporting Charities within our Local Area.
For our Harvest Appeal we collected items and donated them to the local foodbank and also delivered hampers to people in our local community. We visited the local Betty Rushton Community Garden. The Benedictines gathered local produce such as leeks, onions, potatoes and carrots. These were then made into a delicious soup made by our wonderful school cook. We then invited Parents and Parishioners to share a delicious bowl of warming soup within school served by the Benedictines.
Matthew 25
'When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me.'
Here at OLSB we have been working hard to raise money for the Dougie Mac Hospice.
Dougie Mac is a local charity that is close to our hearts at Our Lady and Saint Benedict. This wonderful charity has supported many families within our local Community and school family. We have held a coffee morning and took part in Christmas jumper day.
Pope Francis
' Help one Another, this is what Jesus teaches, this is what I do and I do it with my heart.'
We all took part in the Christmas jumper day on December 13th.
Advent Appeal for the Homeless. During Advent the Benedictines linked with our wonderful Parish to collect items for the homeless. We collected enough items (hats, scarves, gloves, water, biscuits, toothbrushes, tooth paste etc...) to make 15 bags and a box of goodies these were delivered to the Macari Centre which supports homeless people with the local area. We feel blessed and proud that during this cold season that we have been able to share a bit of Christmas love and Joy to people within our Community who need this the most. May they feel the love of Christ surrounding them during this time.
Isaiah Chapter 58
'If you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon.'
Spring Term 2024
This Lent we are joining school children all over the Archdiocese to raise money for Father Hudson’s Care. We will be collecting coins in specially designed envelopes.
This year, at the end of the appeal, we hope to celebrate Mass and hand over our fundraising donation.

We also held a school disco to support our fundraising for this charity.
we took part in the Father Hudson's walk a mile campaign. We walked from school to Hulton Abbey carrying the cross for our Lenten walk. We 'walked alongside' those in need just as Jesus did and raised money for this wonderful charity. We stopped and prayed for those in the world who need our help and support. Did you know that an a homeless person walks on average between 10 and 15 miles per day? We also pledged £1 per pupil.
Summer Term 2024
For the Summer Term our chosen charity is the Jesuit Refugee Service.
In today’s world, many people are forced to move because of war, famine, instability, or persecution. They may have to leave their native land against their will and seek protection elsewhere. At the end of 2022, there were 35.3 million refugees worldwide. We have chosen to support this charity. We are all asked to see Christ in others, especially refugees and migrants, and welcome with love.
“You shall love the stranger as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God”. Leviticus 19:34
